ALA identifies the most promising 15-19 year-old leaders on the African continent and brings them together for a two-year pre-university program. Over 85% of ALA students require full scholarships and another 10% need some financial assistance. All have demonstrated their ability to be agents of positive change in their communities and on the continent. At the Academy, these students engage in hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial training, and each student must develop a “culminating project:” either an entrepreneurial business or an innovative social venture that serves as a platform for their future leadership development. Examples of student ventures include GSIE, which lobbies globally for equal access to education for children with disabilities, and DARECHA, which runs an annual youth entrepreneurship conference and prize in Tanzania.
Bob Marley believes that promoting youth, planet and peace could lead to universal hope and unity. Because the ALA is dedicated to educating and empowering youth—the first of Bob's main causes—a portion 1Love product sales will benefit the academy and take us one step closer to attaining Bob's dreams.
